Many people are living on guesses and don’t know what to do to make their life the kind of life they would be proud to have.
This post will show you how to improve the quality of your life so that you can live more healthy and productive lives.

1. Don’t postpone your sleep for catch-up
You cannot postpone sleep for later. You deprive your body of the rest it needs now to perform optimally.
I’m not saying there are people who sleep less and don’t live productive lives; I’m saying that those type of people are hard to live and work with.
Sleeping less can affect your overall health negatively and can cause serious medical conditions like diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and heart disease.
Depriving yourself of sleep can make you to be sharp with people and irritable also.
Some of the benefits of getting enough sleep includes:
- It boosts your immune system
- Getting enough sleep can slim you down well
- It improves your mental well-being
- Sleeping well can make you perform well in bed… you know…. Sexually
- It increases fertility
2. Read good books
As I’m sure you already know, reading good books will not do anything for your physical well-being but will add tremendously to your mental well-being.
Maybe reading good books will also add to your physical well-being in the sense that when you read more good books, you begin to see life in a whole different way positively which will add to your self-esteem and which in turn will make you walk with your head up high, and also add a certain spring to your step.
Other benefits of reading to your health:
- It gives your brain solid mental stimulation
- Reading books in general reduces the possibilities of getting Alzheimer’s disease in future
- It helps with depression
- Reduces stress
- It makes you feel better
3. Wear clean clothes
Dirty clothes can harbor microorganisms which can lead to skin infections like eczema when you wear them.
Wearing dirty clothes also leads you to having unpleasant body odor (not that any body odor is pleasant).
Having clean shoes and shoe hygiene is also important because when you sweat in your feet, it can provide the adequate warm and moist environment for bacteria and microorganisms to fest; which causes bad smell and other diseases like athlete’s foot.
Always clean your clothes and shoes before wearing them.
If you sweat a lot in your feet, rub powder on your feet before wearing a shoe and if you sweat, put the shoe under the sun to dry when you come back home from work.
Wash your feet also.
This way you can kill all the bacteria from the shoe.
Also, get silicon gel for your shoes because they are a drying agent.
Some shoes come with the silicon gel in them.
4. Wash your hands often
Washing your hands regularly is the number one thing you can do to protect yourself from germs and diseases like flu, and cold.
Not only will washing your hands keep you safe from germs and diseases, it will also prevent you from spreading these diseases to other people.
I have tried to reduce the amount of germs and diseases my hands carry by washing my hands regularly; and also I tried to reduce the amount of germs I contact from people by adopting the method of nodding when greeting some people because you don’t know where their hands have been.
A benefit of washing your hands is that they prevent you from contacting germs and diseases
By the way, some public bathrooms have these blow dryers for your hands; it has been advised that the dryer is a good environment for bacteria because it is warm and moist.
This means use a hand towel or paper towel instead of the dryer.
5. Wash your face daily with a face wash
Washing your face with a good facial cleanser is important as it makes your face more beautiful/handsome and prevents other skin infections on your face like blackheads, pimples and other infections.
Benefits of washing your face:
- It prevents and removes built-up dirt
- Boosts skin hydration
- Maintains clear skin
- Washing your face helps makes your skin look more healthy
6. Learn to walk well
Walking well can improve your posture and overall health.
One day I went on my regular weekend long walks as I do whenever I don’t play football in the evening; when I got back I noticed my legs were throbbing.
I know this is not normal.
So I went on YouTube and looked up how to walk properly and I got a video from a physical therapist on the optimal way to walk.
I began implementing what she said to the way I walked and ever since I haven’t had any of those throbbing when I walk a long way.
When you walk, land on your heel and gradually move to your toes. You should lift your legs on your toes and land on your heels.

7. Take vacations
Vacations are important to you especially if you have a busy schedule and don’t have the time to relax every day.
Take a short vacation once in a while so you don’t burn out.
Vacation helps reduce stress and from work and also improves your mental and physical health.
8. End toxic relationships
Toxic relationships can have a long-term disaster on your overall health.
End every toxic relationship in your life and you will notice a better health.
I know it can be difficult but you have to.
If these people are people you cannot get rid of completely like your neighbours or family members, reduce the amount of contact you have with them or narrow the kind of discussion you have with them to the bare basics.
These are some of the ways toxic relationships affects your health:
- You may die sooner
- You begin to look older than you are
- It increases your stress level
- Your quality of sleep will be low
9. Get a new hobby
Getting a new hobby helps your health in so many ways apart from the fact that physical hobbies can help your health well because of the exercise you are getting.
A new hobby gives you positive stress, which means stress that has a positive effect on us according to Hungarian Endocrinologist Hans Selye.
It also improves memory and gives you a better quality of sleep.
“Smile, it adds to your face value” is a quote I got in John Mason’s book, “An Enemy Called Average (Updated and Expanded)”.
Smiling does not only improve your face value, it makes you look younger and radiant; also it makes you more friendly and approachable to other people.

- Encourages trust from other people
- It lowers your heart rate
- Kills pain or makes it more bearable
- Increases attention on you
- Makes you look more attractive

These are some of the ways you can live a better quality of life. And it is by no means exhaustive as there are many things you can do to live a life of better quality and be in good health of body and mind.
