How many times have you tried to fall asleep at night but end up looking up at the ceiling for hours on end? Wouldn’t you like to know how you can fall asleep faster if you realize you can’t sleep?
This is for you if you are an insomniac (before you give your hard earned money to BigPharma) or if you just find it hard to fall asleep at night.
The First Thing You Must Do
The first thing you should do is to get quality mattress and pillow because it will be a major factor in determining whether you have a good night rest after you fall asleep.
There have been many times I when I couldn’t fall asleep at night and that frustrates me because I like my sleep.
Even when I have to be somewhere as early as 8am!
Maybe I eventually fall asleep by 3 or 4am, wake up at 7am and feel groggy and out of place for the reminder of the day.
Then I came across a feature on discovery channel – I think – or a channel similar to discovery channel where this doctor was trying to make a young man (a musician) fall asleep.
(Don’t mind my providing specific details… it’s important to the plot of the story).
He wasn’t sleeping well because gets fired up from the show that night.
Which is funny because…
I’m not an insomniac but whenever I find it hard to fall asleep at night, it is usually because whenever I have had an intense exercise routine – in my case, intense football match – that evening, the fire is still in me and that makes it hard to fall asleep.
I get really fired up when I play football, mostly because I don’t like to lose. So after the game, I’m still feeling the intensity and this makes it difficult for me to fall asleep.
That’s why when I came across this method I tried it on myself and it worked like magic.
So What’s the Trick I Use to Fall Asleep Faster?
According to the doctor, when you lie down to sleep, lie on your back first.
(Position not that important)
Then, stiffen your whole body starting from your neck.
I wish I could show you how you should this in a video right now but because it’s been years since I saw that feature on TV, I can’t really tell you where to get that particular video.
But start with your neck. Stiffen your neck for 10-15 seconds. Then release.
Do the same for your right and left arm.
To your chest and abdomen, do the same.
Basically, you will have to stiffen all of your body parts to get this right.
If as you are reading this right now you are doing it (that is, stiffening each part of your body as you read), you will notice how relaxed that part of your body begins to get.
Let me continue….. (For the sake of you reading this in bed, at night, because you can’t sleep)
After stiffening your chest and abdomen region, you will now have to go to your butt.
Make it as hard as you can…. then release.
Do the same for each one of your legs… and release.
By now you must have noticed how relaxed your whole body feels.
Stay in this position and as your body is relaxed or relaxing, try to relax your mind also. Try not to think of anything. Forget about the stress of the day.
Sometimes when this method doesn’t work as fast as it normally works for me, it is because I kept thinking about the game or other things that agitated me a little.
If you sleep in a different position other than lying on your back, change positions as soon as you finished the process and then relax your mind.
What you’ll notice is that it is morning already.
I have done this many times and it has worked well for me.
The only times when it did not work (where I had to do it more than once) is when I suddenly realize I didn’t do something I was supposed to do and I get up from bed and go do that.
Then I have to come back to bed and start all over.
This is the technique I use to fall asleep when sleep is evading me.
I hope this little trick has helped you as it has helped me during many sleepless nights.
